The Universe and You
Prof Denis Noble, Presenter and Editor

Prof Denis Noble from the University of Oxford delivers a fascinating talk titled 'The Universe and You'. He looks up to the heavens and down to within our cells to ponder the question of complexity, revealing that while the vastness of the universe contains billions of galaxies and trillions of stars, this is in some ways dwarfed by the number of possible interactions in terms of the human genome. Would our medieval ancestors have been jealous of us today, with technology such as the Hubble Space Telescope, which allows us to see far off galaxies, or should we be jealous of them, with their wondrous every day view of the night sky and in particular the Milky Way? The talk was held in Balliol College as part of the Chaplain Bruce Kinsey's lunch seminar series, which was organised by Balliol students Joseph Wardropper and Henry Wisbey-Broom.
