Dr Clare Hutton, Senior Lecturer in English & Programme Director for English at Loughborough University speaks with Sir Drummond Bone, Master of Balliol College. After a brief introductory chat on why English continues to be relevant as a university discipline, they move on to talk about Clare’s recent book: Serial Encounters: Ulysses and the Little Review (forthcoming with Oxford University Press, 2018).
Her monograph is a study of the textual and contextual significance of James Joyce’s Ulysses (1922) as it appeared serially in the US periodical, the Little Review (1918-1920). Clare received a DPhil in English from Oxford in 1999.
