Hong Fan is a professor in School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University. She got her MA in Applied Linguistics in English at Tsinghua University in 1988, and then started to work as lecturer at the university. In 2005 she got her PhD in Cross-Cultural Communication in Oxford University, UK. During 1994-1997, she worked as the private secretary to the Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand. She was deputy chair of Foreign Languages Department before she joined the School of Journalism and Communication in 2002. During the academic year of 2007-2008, she was visiting professor at Kean University in US, where she taught Managerial Communication and Cross-Cultural Business Communication for their Global MBA program. In 2009 she was appointed as adjunct professor of Communication Department of Purdue University, USA. She was also invited by Tsinghua-INSEAD EMBA program to teach Cross-Cultural Communication course at INSEAD in France.
