Prof Erwin Neher
Professor of Biophysics, Max Planck Institute, 1991 Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine

Born on March 20, 1944, Erwin Neher studied physics at Munich Technical University and took his masters at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA.  He returned to Munich and completed his doctorate in physics in 1970.  Since then he has held a number of posts and honorary professorships, including at Yale University, the University of Göttingen, the Max Planck Institute, and the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA,  In 1991 he was the joint recipient with Bert Sakmann of the Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine.
