Prof Nong-Moon Hwang from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University speaks with Prof Denis Noble from the University of Oxford. They discuss the process of creativity as outlined in Prof Hwang’s recent lecture on the subject, and draw parallels between the way immersive thinking and creativity can be developed in young people, and the interactive teaching style of the Oxford tutorial system. They also talk about the trend of how Nobel prize winners have themselves studied or researched with previous winners, perhaps revealing the importance of the intellectual environment to creative academic success, and how many of their insights have been dreamt up during sleep.
