Gerard Manley Hopkins
Prof Lesley Higgins from Canada’s York University is an expert on the 19th century poet and Jesuit Priest Gerard Manley Hopkins. In this lecture she presents the results of her research having studied archival records in Balliol College and other University of Oxford institutions including Campion Hall and the Bodleian Library. Through his many surviving letters, notebooks and writings, Lesley tells the story of a gifted yet troubled Balliol student. The lecture was filmed in Balliol’s Archive Collection Centre in the former St Cross Church.
