Prof Keith Krause is Professor of International Relations at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. He specialises in international security, political violence and international theory. In this Oliver Smithies lecture at the University of Oxford titled ‘War, Violence and the State: Between Predation and Protection’ he explains some of the characteristics of war and violence throughout history and the role of the state in attempting to provide security across the world.
