Richard Ovenden, Bodley’s Librarian at the University of Oxford is interviewed by Prof Denis Noble, also from the University of Oxford. They discuss the history and founding of one of the most famous and renowned libraries in the world, including the time in the middle ages when it was dramatically ransacked and burned to the ground. The digitisation of books means that libraries are having to change the way they interact with their readers, and Richard Ovenden talks us through ways in which the Bodleian Library is meeting the needs of 21st century scholars, with the new Weston Library at the forefront. They also discuss the international nature of the Bodleian, with books, manuscripts and students having arrived from around the world, from its earliest incarnation to the present day.
