Encaenia is the annual celebration at the University of Oxford when honorary degrees are awarded to people from around the world who have excelled in their field. The Chancellor of the University of Oxford leads the procession of dignitaries through Radcliffe Square and into the Bodleian Library, before the conferral of the degrees in the Sheldonian Theatre. The honorands in 2018 were: Dame Mary Beard, Sir Matthew Bourne, Lord David Neuberger, Professor Helga Nowotny, Professor Robert Putnam, Mr Martin Scorsese and Lord Nicholas Stern.
